The evil Anta Maria covets intelligent dogs, hoping to use their brains in humanoid cyborgs in order to circumvent the robots' natural inability to harm humans.

:p Such references to Tezuka's companies are scattered throughout the series.

The villains are getting away!

These next few images doomed this episode to exclusion from the ELV:

There are also several of frozen dog corpses, but I skip them.

I include only scattered images, as the story should be well-known to most of you.

I think they reused the clip of Atom galloping on all fours in HUMANOID BILL (MIGHTY MINUTE).

I think Edgar Rice Burroughs' THE MASTERMIND OF MARS may have influenced the restoration of Pero's brain to his body, as this element was crucial in that story. In it, old rich people had their brains transplanted into young strong bodies, while the brains of these were tranferred into the old ones. Then, they were preserved, & could even be brought back to life. But what a shock to those whose young bodies were swapped for the old ones!

I'm kinda wondering how this episodes ends (Considering of how they made a sequel to it many episodes later.) Does it end with mustachio and perro? Or is it like one of those radomly ending kind of episodes?

Hope I'm making sense here.

The anime version was quite different from the Manga. I was surprised that the aircraft drawn in the manga was the Convair XYF-1 pogo Image

Compare the picture of the real aircraft, with the one Tezuka drew in the manga. That's it exactly! The Convair XYF01 Pogo was an experimental fighter that never saw production, and only a few prototypes were ever built back in 1955-56 This episode of the Manga was first printed in 1961, so declassified photos of the aircraft had probably been published by then in Jane's. Tezuka must have been an aviation buff!

Wow. I've never even noticed. O_o... lol. This is the first time I actually seen a manga artist draw something that exists in real life. That's pretty interesting.

I noticed the propellers and the wings on the aircraft but no symbol or text that says "NAVY" on it. Though, yeah that's exactly the Convair XYF01 Pogo alright!

Well, he DID do a lot of research for this stories, as authors should. His works may have stretched the line of accuracy but a lot of the elements in his story were based on real facts, theories and the sciences of his time.

Well that's true. I wonder if Tezuka was interested in medicine. There was a lot of true facts in Black Jack.

I was always into health ever since I was in grade school. (Still am today.) So I guess that's why Black Jack is on the list of "Best animes of all time." for me.

Sorry for going off topic there.

Tezuka Sensei was a licensed medical doctor. He had gone through medical school, but, he never practiced as he became an artist instead. So in BlackJack, he KNEW what he was writing about! And Tezuka appeared as himself as a doctor many times in the manga and anime.
