O.k., One day before Atom's 11th birthday, I conclude my coverage of the 89 excluded episodes.




For whatever reason, Higeoyaji checks on the mice (or rats) living in his attic, only to find--


a sign indicating they have fled.



Immediately following this, critters begin migrating toward the poles.


Why Nakamura morphs into a pig, who can say?




I checked my notes, & found only 1 reference to the savage appearing in the theater along with the scientists: 119, Flying lens


Another out of screen occurrence.








The Earth's warming is caused by the sun!




Who knows, the sun might explode--


Or shrivel away.


While nearly all humans prepare to escape into space, Napoletan intends to stay, & declare himself king of Earth.




























Napoletan's henchman, though we see very little of him.








What could be cuter than several little ones snuggled together in bed? It is a sad commentary on our race that certain States or counties take a dim view of this, and insist that each kid has his own bed, & some even demand separate rooms.




Now, for an into the screen attempt!


It only works the other way.


The sub says "It's an irrational call." To which Atom replies with international call.

I did not record the audio of Uran's speech, as it did not occur to me to do so. It does seem strange to me, though.




The dying Robot President's last request, is that Atom succeed him. Atom says it is too much for him, but they talk him into it.



Napoletan sends warning to the robots that he is the Earth's ruler, & any resistance will have consequences.


No, this is not the Twilight Zone episode The Invaders, but this flying saucer is delivering Napoletan's ultimatum: cease defeating my works of evil, etc., or else.

What follows are Napoletan's various attempt to persuade the robots to declare him Ruler:

Though Atom's head is little more than a decoration, it would seem strange to show gears turning inside his chest, to indicate thinking.






I think I have seen this other robot before, but I just cannot recall where or when.










Only the cactus is enduring the heat.

Atom reads Napoletan's letter that tells him he should have submitted to his rule. But Atom only becomes more determined to defeat him.


I guess these robots have more than Uran's 50kHp, else they could hardly restrain her.








Napoletan has just told Uran the he has no regard for the fair sex as far as robots are concerned, & that he will dissolve both sexes in acid, if they disobey him.

Papa is true to form, encouraging Atom to fight Napoletan, regardless of the danger his family might face because of it. That is, Papa has always been supportive of Atom when he is on a mission.


























Notice that the man strips the robots, apparently thinking clothes dignify them. The same thing happened in The Blue Knight, but that was to liken that scene to the NAZI death camps.

Atom sees Napoletan's exposed robot brain, & tells him so.




Realizing his is a robot instead of a cyborg, Napoletan goes nuts. Thinking all is lost, he freaks out. & though he does not say so, I add it:

"Oh, no! I'm a robot!"

I am certain that Urasawa drew inspiration from this element, as he makes Abullah have a similar revelation.


Just before leaping into the acid vat, Napoltetan gives Atom a device that will stop the sun's excessive heat. But if he were human, I would think he would have used this earlier, because it was already becoming too hot for humans.

Oh but this is cute and it's not indecent at all. Really some people.

But yes I did noticed some parallels between Urasawa's Pluto and this episode.



On the other hand...

Atom's mom looks like the manga iteration in that lineup. However, Cobalt looks the same... maybe they had a hard time translating his manga look into animation, and just exaggerated his appearance a little...? Anime Atom looks a little different than Manga Atom, after all. (I've also noticed that Anime Atom and Anime Leo suffer a little bit from same-face syndrome sometimes...)

If they made them look like they did in the manga, then this could account for Chi-tan's disappearance, as he was not a constant in the manga like many of the other characters featured were. He only appeared in one story, after all.

Also are we seriously not gonna talk about the fact that Cobalt wet his bed?

If I recall rightly, it gets cold at night, and his oil cap loosens up... although one cannot see anything that resembles an oil cap, or a cap of any kind, on his person... maybe it's internal; in which case, that's a much bigger mess/problem... (Okay I am looking way too deeply into this than is at all healthy or normal...)

I guess they had to add some humor in to counter how depressing the end was (not sure if that was successful though).

I never noticed Cobalt's incontinence before!
(It doesn't surprise me that LBF noticed this)
And Uran is laughing at him, despite their mother telling her not to tease him.
(Maybe that's why we never see Cobalt sharing a bed with Astro and Uran?)
