1. the alien is a pretty young woman.
2. the two sides end up helping each other in a situation neither can handle alone. Atom is now reluctant to do away with his human foe, but his partner might not be.

Like the Outer limits story, Contest in Space transports a guy in trouble with the law to the 'arena.'



Unlike it, here is the alien opponent. I suspect both of these were based upon the same story; however, Tezuka put a few twists in his plot. See 097 Contest in Space
