OMGoodness! That is freakin awesome!!!!! It say it doesn't have English subtitles. I don't know if this is a good deal. I wish to buy this but I don't think I should.

I have that DVD. It's the story of Fuhrer ZZZ, so if you have the manga (Dark Horse Astroboy #17) it's easy enough to follow along.

I have seen it, & it has a few differences, mainly in characters' appearances. Dr. O has hair & a beard, his nose is no bigger than others. I have images, but the quality is rather poor. :(

I think there were a few other stories with live-action versions in this series, but I cannot remember where I got that info. :p irate:

Thanks for the pics StellDream and thanks for the translation of the episodes DrFrag. I have the movie made out of the ZZZ chapters, but I'd like to see the whole series in a nice box set. Ohh well, maybe someday. I might write Tezuka Pro. and ask them about that as well as a Jetter Mars box set. :astro:

I wonder about the episode length. The DVD runs for 75 minutes, but the original episode list says it's 13 parts. That means it must have been shown in very short pieces. Including the introduction and closing, maybe 8 or 9 minutes per episode.

Hi DrFrag,

Actually the movie version is an extreme edited version of the first 13 episodes that were a half hr. long each. I you look at this link here, it shows the dates of original broadcast:

http://www2.odn.ne.jp/~ccs89380/ztv/tv01atom/TV01atom.htm

As you can see at the bottom of the page in the left colum, it starts with episode 1 on Mar. 7, 1959 and episode 2 a week later on Mar 14, 1959. If the episodes were only 10mins. long then it would have shared the time slot with something else to fill up the remaing half hour block, but I see no evidence of this. It was a stand alone show like the animated series. So they just butchered the 13 ZZZ episodes to make the 75min. movie we have to use as a pilot for the '63-'66 animated series. So thanks to the butchering we probably missed some great scenes.

Tezuka often did this with his early movies. He would take several episodes from a tv show and edit them together for a movie like the '66 kimba movie which I have and also the '64 Astro movie :astro: which combines only 3 episodes so not much editing, but still only using tv footage.
