Astro Boy Unloved in America

Postby MegaAstroFan75 » 14 years ago

It really is true, the poor guy receives zero love in North America. I've looked around and despite being a true anime classic, Astro Boy is overlooked and ignored in North America. Now granted the dubs haven't always been stellar, but they've been better than most anime dubs. Especially the 2003 series which was dubbed well considering it was during the era of the FCC's tyrannical grip on television.

Yet people prefer Lucky Star, .//hack, Naruto and so on.

So my questions are; have you noticed this lack of american love for Astro Boy? And do you think the film was created to help create some love for the series here? Do you think it will be successful?

Speaking of lack of love I notice how the roleplay's being ignored again. I joined and managed to seed a plot so if you want to join in, please do. :)

i think america is running out of ideas for stories so they are making their own Astro. And i dunno if they really appreciate astro boy with all the changes they've made in the movie.

changes like:
always wearing clothes
the way he talks...not as sweet as the Astro we know
and the humour....so typical of americans

im getting all this from the trailer n clips on youtube

So not true. I belong to a four generation solid american family who has loved Astro. My grandmother loved it, watched it with my mom, who showed it to me, and my own daughter loves it too. So there :p take that statistics!

I think it's because America is kinda shallow but it's anime. Being American I've noticed most of the anime that works here is either super action packed, has lots of hot women with big boobs, or is just violent. Astro Boy has none of these. That and I think a lot of current Anime fans are turned off by it's "old fashioned" art style.
That said, he still gets more attention that say, Princess Sapphire :shifty:

That is all fault of the new anime generation. Now the animé is so stupid and superficial, so extremely porn and lack of a real message... Personally I don't like Naruro, Hack and all that new stuff.. Old anime is good and it's will be forever.

But try to argue that with a neo-otaku.. those kids thinks that Naruto is the law in the anime field.

Honestly I don't know how the Chilean audience will recieve Astroboy.. I din't even thought about it.

Yeah, I don't get Naruto myself. Though not all new anime is bad.
Inuyasha, Bleach, and Haruhi Suzamiya are awesome!
That 2003 Astro Boy probably would've been received better if they weren't trying to dumb it down for kids

I think a lot of the reason that "Astro Boy got no love in the U.S.A." is that
1.) Astro Boy had not been seen widely in the U.S. since the early seventies,
2.) His series are not as violent as let's say, Dragon Ball Z,
3.) A lot of his thunder was stolen by Mega Man, whom many thought "Astro Boy" was a ripe- :) off of,
and 4.) For some reason poeple complain about the apparent lack of an outfit for "Astro Boy"! Eventhough in all three versions of "Astro Boy" he wore proper clothing, except when he went into action! Personally I think the new movie with all its revisions will be well accepted when it's released! Let's keep saying, "Everything is go, Astro Boy!" :) :astro:    :D :hyo:

Well what what violent do they want?
The whole metro city is exploding and all the building is going on fire
and astro is going to fight all the villians in just 10 minutes!?

Or do they want Astro will have to leave metro city to have a quest for an items to save the world!?

My feeling is....he's not a shuriken chucking, side kicking, stupid spike haired wise butt like Naruto.

Besides? Astro is too kind, has too many good morals and is just all around good. Today's kids are over-exposed to bad television, bad movies, bad video games and just a plain rotten environment and worse it's creeping down to younger and younger ages.

I'm still cheering for the movie and hope it hits a nerve, lights a little spark, perhaps sticks in the minds of these younger yet to grow in their shoes generation of kids, God knows we need to see better than I've witnessed around my own neighbourhood.

Show em up kid. Now there's a bumper sticker...

"My boy Bot whooped on your knucklehead ninja!"
