I'm still intrigued with why they ended their calendar-making with 2012. Was calendar-making the task of one person, who died? Was this nothing-past-2012 phenomenon evident throughout their culture, or found in only one example?

I understand the concern with getting panic-prone masses worked up, but I like discussing the possibility that these ancient people had some kind of knowledge that would have caused them to suggest the changing of another "age." Thinking of how there are rumors/reports of finding things such as Noah's Ark, and what could be what we call "Atlantis" suggest not all of this is bogus.

As I mentioned before, I'm at peace with facing whatever comes to pass. But I am excited to have lived through the turn of the century, and will hopefully be here another couple years to see what comes of this ancient prophesy. As Astro would say: "Catch the Future!" :astro: :D

Metropolis manga much?

Maybe the Mayans did find some significance in the number 12, but I guess if they did... then they wouldn't really have it at 2012, I guess. Lame theory, I know.

People have thought that the world will come to an end on a particular day for centuries now. I honestly don't know why it do it...but they just do. But there has been a lot of commotion surrounding this 2012 one, since it is known by almost everyone, there was even a film made about it plus the fact that the Mayans were such an advanced race.

December 21 – The Mesoamerican Long Count calendar, notably used by the pre-Columbian Maya civilization among others, completes a "great cycle" of thirteen b'ak'tuns (periods of 144,000 days each) since the mythical creation date of the calendar's current era.
