Black Jack 21 and the REAL Pinoko!

This series (on Viki and YouTube - via Viki) is WONDERFUL!! I've enjoyed this every bit as much as Astro Boy. I don't know about the earlier versions of the anime, but this one is just superb, and I do hope they create more.

BJ as a character really grows on you (and his face looks like how I picture AB looking as an adult - sans scars and white wild hair, of course) - but this whole story . . . where he uncovers his past, and unearths a grave secret for the world (which, I noted is what some have felt the aids virus was/is - a botched fabricated disease). Just great writing and animation - LOVED IT.

But I COMPLETELY lost my cool and started to cry when Black Jack had a (we don't know . . . hallucination?) of Pinoko as she REALLY looks "inside." Just broke my heart!

GREAT STORY - HIGHLY RECOMMEND WATCHING IT. Only 17 episodes in the series.

So glad to finally see some love for other Tezuka anime on here, and yes, some of them are just as good as Astro Boy!

Black Jack 21 is quite a ride, and a wonderful improvement over the previous series. I hope the previous series can get all of its 5 sets funded on Anime Sols so that Black Jack 21, its direct sequel, will get its chance.

Well, Saraku (I think that's his name) was in BJ21 and he was a very endearing little guy, so I'm certain I'll check that out as well! Thanks for the recommendation!

Jeez. A blast from the past. I still need to watch the rest of the 2004 Black Jack series. I want to see them before I see Black Jack 21. I loved watching Black Jack. That's one of the first anime I watched when I knew what anime was. That was 4 years ago when I really got into anime.

I saw the older version of Black Jack. Have yet to see Black Jack 21.

I finished Black Jack 21 about three months ago and loved it. I found the non-episodic format to be more enjoyable than the 2004 series, though I love both. The OVA of Black Jack is my favorite show from the series, though.

Oh I love Black Jack! I really enjoyed the 2003/4 series, they really tried their best to keep it true to the manga while updating it to modern technology. I was really impressed, and I love the fact that they added Dr. Tezuka as a real character. It just tickled me.

I also really enjoyed the 1990's series, as creepy as the series was. I really liked the animation of the 1990s series.
