Being a bus driver myself now, I wondered if any of you ever heard about this movie. I remember watching it when I was about 11 years old. I didn't find it particularly funny back then, but rather was impressed by the design of the atomic driven articulated bus. I even used to make some little copies out of LEGO.
Some info and piccies on this site.

OMG, I remember that movie. It was a disaster movie satire about a nuclear powered bus. The stupid thing could change its own tires while moving, wash itself, and even had a swimming pool and a bowling alley on board!

Yeah the best gag was "I only ate a foot".

Might work for great accelerations on straight lines, just don't touch the wheel
Oh I know, they must be using a tesseract, great for bending the laws of physics
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

I remember the line from the guy on the ground, as they pulling the sheet over his face, "I'm not dead yet!"
I guess that was the 1st disaster film spoof, though not the best. I still woulds like to see it again. The thing is, it spoofed disaster transportation films in general, while Airplane spoofed a particular film, THE BIG BUS -- wait a minute! there is a link to a NEOPLAN JUMBOCRUISER on the Wikipedia page! Somebody really did mage a huge bus!
Anyway, so I had seen the Poseidon adventure, & that was about it, until much later.
I did see the [Zero Hour] airliner disaster film, on TCM a few years ago, & had not seen Airplane itself in full until TCM ran them both one after the other, though Airplane was 1st! So, for those seeing Zero Hour only after seeing Airplane, I can imagine them laughing at a totally serious movie, because item for item, Airplane spoofed it. But even seeing Zero Hour before Airplane, I could not help thinking S. Haydon's character was General Ripper, whom he played in Dr. Strangelove.
While I cannot recall much specifics from THE BIG BUS, I suppose it did spoof airline disaster films.

Yeah, I spotted that one too! Too bad their bus lacks the atomic rocket propultion!
Although "Airplane II: The Sequel" wasn't as funny as its predecessor, Wiliam Shatner did a splendid job in spoofing his 'Cpt. Kirk' image!

There was only one (thankfully).
