Odd, I have just realised that there has not been a mention of A.I. yet, despite the subject the film handles. I have watched half of A.I. before we both feel asleep (It was late), and the story is very much like Atom's back-story (I am not going to give spoilers, go watch it yourself), so much that I would not be surprised if Steven Spielberg was inspired by Atom.

The Wicker Man - Robin Hardy
The Citizen Kane of horror? Possibly. The Wicker Man is a great fusion of the classic Hammer horror style along side the eerie tones of an isolated society.
This film stars iconic Hammer actor as Lord Summerisle and Edward Woodward as Sgt. Howie.
I've only seen one of the cut versions, but it's still a great bit of film craftsmanship, especially when you consider that it was the director's first feature. Talk about a strong beginning.
I am aware of the film's origins in the novel Ritual, I'm planning to hunt down a copy to read myself. A reprint obviously, I'm not mad enough to shell out 600 bucks for an original hardcover when a softcover is only $2.23.
