Bluh, no offence, but I hate Doctor Who. Or, I hate the idea of it, at least. It was Tumblr's community of obnoxious Whovians (as well as the ones that project onto the MLP:FiM fandom- which, while I'm not quite a part of, I still have something of a participation in- about one stupid background character; in fact, it was probably mostly these idiots) that killed my interest, which I find ironic, as Tumblr was what initially piqued my interest in the show, before I decided that it was too much work to bother with, especially without access to Netflix anymore; and that the fandom was completely obnoxious, for the vast majority. I dunno if older fans are like that, but I, for one, am sick of seeing references to this show all over the place... also, plot-wise, isn't that kind of phoning it in? I feel that this concept had a lot more potential than what was tapped for the story, especially since most of it was lifted from outside sources.

Ah well; I'll have to put my money where my mouth is on that front, yeah? Sorry; I hope I'm not offending you. I just felt it had more potential. I wonder if this is what can happen to stories that aren't really planned from the start...?

Dr. Who just happens to be the longest running SF show ever. It first aired before the original Star Trek, and it continues to this day (it did go on hiatus for a few years though). Needless to say there have been scores of different writers, producers, actors, and everyone else involved in the show over the years, which means the very character of the show has changed greatly since it was first aired. So if you hate the current incarnation of the show, it doesn't mean you wouldn't like an earlier version of it, (or visa-versa).

I've never hung out with Whovians on tumbler or twitter, and I really don't give a rats rectum about what they think. My fandom of the show revolves around the 3rd, 4th, and 5th versions of the doctor (It was the 4th doctor that appeared in this chapter of the story).

Anyway, because of the show's long history it's impossible to lump all fans of the show into one group, and if you tried they'd probably have such different opinions of it with so many different favorite versions of the title character, many of which would be totally opposite of each other. As a result there is no way you could get my dander up about your opinion of the show, since we both would probably be talking about TOTALLY DIFFERENT Doctor Whos. Be that as it may, I can't think about any time travel story without the good doctor (Jon Pertwee or Tom Baker) popping into my head.

BTW Peter Davison, the 5th doctor also played some character in one of the Harry Potter movies if anyone cares about that.

My original idea for this story was confined to what was in the first chapter. In continuing it, it evolved into a sort of "League of extraordinary gentlemen" farce lifting characters out of Verne, Wells, and Stevenson. I guess this is the sort of thing that happens when you try to write a story in installments over a protracted period of time instead of keeping the entire manuscript to yourself until the entire thing is well fleshed out and polished. I won't apologize for doing that, sometimes the journey is what you're after and not the destination. OTHO, I have a few other ideas that I won't share until I'm happy with the whole result since the quality will end up being higher. Also consider the sin of trying to write four or more stories at the same time. Not very pretty the result sometimes, I probably won't be doing that again.

I also sometimes have a good idea, but it never really gets fleshed out beyond a few chapters worth. I've killed two stories off in mid stream, and don't think they'll ever get finished. It happens and is a good reason NOT to try posting as you compose, yet that is what the fan fiction site sorta makes you do.

My favorite form of story is still the 'one shot', something that literally falls into the 'short story' realm of under 3000 words in a single chapter. Those can't go wrong posted here or on the FF site.

Bottom line is you can't improve your writing without doing it. So I don't mind having a few stories become disappointments, they can always be yanked from ff.net, edited, and reposted (Though I haven't done that yet). And criticism doesn't hurt if you keep your ego in check. So thank you very much for yours, always.
