A huge number of people hate Astroboy, the same reason a number of them hate Superman. It's because neither of them fit into their views of "bada$$" hero, whether loudmouth and hotblooded (like most typical Shonen heroes), dark and gritty (like Spawn) or morally ambiguous (like Deadpool)

There are many adjectives I'd give that series before cheesy, such as funny, charming, imaginative, heart-warming, artistic, ahead of its time, revolutionary, hardcore with its sci-fi ideas, cute, inspirational, industry-changing, stylistic, and I pass.
