Because of course, if we were to zap everything that isn't realistic, we might as well zap Astro himself, close this board, this site and burn the mangas! ;) And even if Astro himself was real, he wouldn't have much to face anyway in a world without Atlas or aliens, so he'd have a much more boring life!

 I didn't meant to evoke the impression of putting your topic in question by my statement, I too find those issues very interesting as well. It also gives us some room to place some animated GIFs never seen before.

However, I still find those physics impossibilities funny and interesting anyway, especially when the contradictions arise from the series itself. Astro being able to carry or catch a big flying rock is one thing; okay, let's say I believe it. But then if his body is strong enough to hold one, how could he be in danger of being destroyed by it (The Human Faced Rock)?

...or take Astro's exposure to high voltage for instance. When I think of how many times Astro got electrocuted by high voltage cables, by Skunk, by Frankenstein, by lightnings a.s.o., and he still is frightened by the thought of jumping through a tiny 20'000 volt trapeze?
Alright, I admit this isn't a good example as Astro still wasn't quite aware of his powers and robustness to that point of time. ;)

There are things in the series that I appreciate more now than I did back when I was a child.

Same with me. As I rediscovered the Astroboy series 3 years ago I was truly astonished about some episodes complexity of storyline and treating current environment problems.
When I used to watch the series back in my youth I merely was impressed by Astro's visual appearance and his vocal approach than actually to understand what the plots were all about.
Of course in some episodes it was quite obvious what Astro was dealing with, even without understanding the dialogue, but the episodes' real magic hadn't revealed to me until I actually was able to catch the phrases being spoken.

Just let me have a try...
What about a concrete with microcrystals oriented such a way that they offer hard resistance when in horizontal position, and much less when in vertical position? Yes, that's the perfect material of the future, just let me deposit a patent right away. I have no table here, so I will just put the paper on the wall to write on it...
<CRRAAAAAACK!>
Oh no! the pencil when though the wall! :o
Oh never mind... anyway this invention had no future <_<

Just give me a decent note when you're going to invite the WARP drive, then I'll start the preparations for refuging myself in a parallel universum.

Wait! This time I have it: the perfect wall superheroes-aware! :wahah:
A wall composed with nano-robots each one powered by micro-nuclear plants so you don't have to care about the batteries. They are equipped with superheroes detectors and make the wall permeable to them when one is near and expresses the desire to go through the wall -_-
Now about that patent... what do you say about "radioactive-leakage"? Oh no! I knew I had forgottent something <_<
Let's forget... hey, why did you disappear in a parallel universe :o

Oops, something seems wrong with the forum. I can't send a message through the "quote" button!

Yeah, I must look like a child showing off some new-found ability! :wahah:

I thought you meant you didn't really want to go deep down into those issues because it made you too uncomfortable. ;)

I had never thought of that one. I actually never wondered how much voltage there is in a lightning... But then Doctor Elefun too seemed worried about Astro performing the trick.

I couldn't have said it better, even if I did understand what was said.

What's even more interesting is that the series played for the last time here when I was around 13 or 14. I watched it a bit but still saw it with my child eyes, probably because it was too fresh in my mind. Stopping watching it completely for years and then watching it all again gave me a totally new perspective.

I ran away, I was too scared of the result! :P

P.S.: That's weird, I could quote from fafner's post but not from Strange Wings'. I love computers! :P Forget about the time in the above quotes, I had to copy/paste because just QUOTE=nickname didn't seem to do the thing...

I wasn't speaking about you... so you ran away too? I bet I scared everyone with my superheroes-aware nuclear-powered nano-robots :P

This is a bug in the forum: some messages can't be quoted. I tried to quote Strange Wings' message too (most probably the same as you), and I end up with some <TABLE>, <TR> and <TD> tags in the quoted text, and no button to validate  I ran through this one a few times during the past year.

I figured I'd be more safe in a totally different universe.

So I guess Strange Wings is really in a different universe now, we can't even quote him! :P

I didn't know, first time I experienced this! Thank you.

I've remembered a sort-of-mistake from the 2003 series. It think it's when Astro is fighting Atlas in one of the early episodes. I just remember Astro on the ground with a great force pushed against him, and it cracks and depresses a large circle of ground around him. It was very reminiscent of Dragonball Z. It sort of annoyed me because it looked gimmicky. I'm sure he should have had his feet press into the ground. I mean, why the big circular depression around him?

I'll post a pic when I get my Astro hard drive connected up.

Quoted and wormholed. B)

I still can't find that picture. If I stumble across it I'll post it.

Good caption, Strange Wings. *claps*
How about this one?

Astro:Uran! How come everytime you always get me into messes like this?!
Uran:
1.I hate doing dirty work.
2. I hate mowing the lawn as a chore, so I thought cleaning out the bee hive was a better chore for me.
3. Instead of me being your little sister, I'm also programmed to annoy you, so I did this "bee hive" distraction for you to save me as usual, and then get in trouble for it! *laughs*
Astro:*thinking* I never should've said, "I've always wanted a sister!" to Dr. Elefun.*slapps his head* Bad Astro! Bad Astro!

Thank you, you're too kind.
