What is Battle of the Planet?

Iam a really big fan of astroboy. But I really don't have a lot of knowledge of it since Iam here in the Philippines where resources aren't that much. And Iam very very glad to find out this web site.

what is this battle of the planet as I have encountered when reading the forums? is this part of the astro boy 1980 series?

btw. what are the differences between astro boy 60's, 80's and 2003?

Battle of the Planets was the poorly exported US butchered version of a series called Gatchaman. It involved 5 teenagers with special powers who helped defend the earth against bad dudes from space.

Itwas a wildly popular Anime and if you do a google for it you will find a treasure trove of info about it.

As for your questions about Astro I am afraid I will have to leave those to other people, as it have been over 20 years since I saw the original series and have yet to see the new series.

I would also like to add here that I too would be interested in knowing some of the differences in the three different series. So someone out there who is in the know, post it!

Between the 60s and 80s, the main difference is age and color. Atom was initially supposed to be 12, but the 80s series was aimed at a younger audience (I guess), and he was made 9. shorter, rounder, and cuter were the siblings, especailly Uran. Cobalt / Jetto never made it out of the 60s though. I really do not remember seeing any of the 60s eps with either the bottom-mounted machine guns, or the laser in his fingers, though. The machine guns figured prominantly in the 80s but were dropped in 2003, in favor of a Megaman style weapon. The 60s had a rather undignified method of refuelling, see Atom's briefs/Uran the impostor on this thread. and Technical difficulties/impossibilities of Atom, and Hips or butt for discussions on related topics, Jeffbert's pages, for plot comparisions.
