characters from mid-60s

I'm old enough to remember Astroboy from the mid-60's, but my memory is not serving me well, apparently. I seem to remember Astroboy being cared for by a scientist who looked like more like Geppetto from Pinnocchio! I have no memory of the big-nosed Elephun!! Is there a difference between the 1980s revival (which I never saw) and the earlier? I had an Astroboy coloring book and recall vividly images of a scientist with a big moustache! I thought it would be fun to watch the new cartoon with my little boys-----was I surprised! Terrible. I remember Astroboy being sweet. So, if anyone out there can help set me straight.......
