That's because the japanese version includes the original 2nd episode 'Atom vs Atlas'. In the english version, both the 1st & 2nd uncut japanese episodes have been merged into one episode, this being 'The Birth Of Astro Boy' which is lacking all crucial parts with young Atlas.
