I told my dad about this and he has a few things to say;

"I remember the Kimba opening episode. Kimba's father gets killed by poachers _not_ in a plot by his brother. Kimba and his mother get captured and put on board a ship to be sold to a zoo. Something happens to the ship, Kimba gets free but his mother can't, she pleads with her son to make his escape. He finally jumps overboard and swims back to shore. (I remember a musical number with him swimming and his mother's image appearing in the stars overhead) Upon returning to his home, I seem to remember Kimba trying to organize the animals into a government! (Hardly Disney's story.)

I've noticed that while this get _tons_ of coverage, nobody ever comments on the similarities between Aladdin and the old Sabu b&w fantasy movie (I think it was titled "The Prince Who Was A Thief" but I might be getting confused with a really bad color film with Tony Curtis! ;)

I saw the entire 1st season not too long ago, & that seems correct. It was still an evil relative that tried to kill Kimba and take the throne, & return to the evils of eating other animals. The female did have the hero over the cliff, but she was only acting to promote the male leader of her clan. Nevertheless, the similarities are striking:

Kimba is at the mercy of the adult, while Mufasa (the voice of Vader) is likewise at the mercy of the usurper.

And what it with the Bass Baritone giving voice to a good guy? Good guys have always been tenors. :D

Anyway, the usurper was not a relative (I think), because his daughter was Kimba's girlfriend. The girlfriend did bear a strong resemblance to Minnie Mouse, though.

Good points but being a fan of Disney since my childhood, I still have trouble believing that they'd rip-off something.

I have been ( and still am ;) ) a Disney fan in my childhood, but I think that the movies by themselves should be separated from the way they were created. Rip-of or not, the movie is still the same. Once you have that, put the movie aside and imagine the head department when deciding what will be the next movie. These guys are not the same who drew the movie. In fact they not even are Walt Disney himself ;)
Many people elaborate a movie, some are good guys, other bad guys :D and the movie is still the same B)
The real sign that someone has become a fanatic is that he completely loses his sense of humor about some important facet of his life. When humor goes, it means he's lost his perspective.

Disney is a very large corporation; its film making part by itself likely has hundreds if not thousands of employees. Therefore, that it contains a few bad aplles is no surprise.

Hea. I had this topic over at my "home" message board. (I was meaning to make one and after I saw this in July, it gave me the motivation AND courage to create it.)

It's as plain as water that Disney was ripping something off (but that's not a surprise! ;) . That Roy! He thought Simba's name was Kimba at chat! *laughs*

Funny too, I don't know why people think a company is their best friend... A company's main goal is to make money...

dragonrider you are clearly ignorant. Everything disney is a rip-off. Oh and mickey mouse is in fact michael jackson. Look at the evidence: 1. Hangs out with little kids, 2. has his own amusement park in backyard, 3. Black guy with white face. see the pattern here foo'? :angry:

:wacko: How can Mickey be Micahel Jackson? Mickey appeared in the late 20s while Michael Jackson first appeared in the early 70s?
Also, those amusment parks of Mickeys were built way before Michael Jacksons.
Oh, and Jeffbert, I should reply to what you said. You're right that some of my examples were bad. Maybe I should've left some of those alone.
