As you may know I'm writing a new story for Zinc. This story is somewhat scary, but I will try to keep the gore down. As for now I'm clueless of where this is going.
It has been 20 years since Zinc was created. The celebration of her birth should be joyous, but a disease has swept the globe and killed all of mankind. It was too fast to stop; only some were spared. The disease doesn't have a name, they just call it Armageddon.
Enjoy,
Gotta Love ASTRO BOY
First part (May change this is just a teaser)
As I walked down the sidewalk the stench of death was inescapable. There were bodies spewing into the streets. They were corpses of billions of people. Robots, including me, burned and buried at least 30 of these corpses a day. The only humans know to be left were living in space. This was all because of one disease. It hit so fast that it couldn’t be stopped. We don’t know where it came from and we don’t exactly have a name for it, we just call it Armageddon. It shuts down all human organns and leaves them suffering for hours and sometimes days. It has been a long year of digging, burying, and burning and I now take the appearance of a 26 year old woman. Robots have advanced much in the last 20 years since I was created. If it wasn’t for the fact that my skin on my left arm had been burned off, revealing my circuitry, one would think I was human.
I walked up to my fourth body of the day. It was the corpse of a young female and she appeared to have only been dead for a few months. I reached down and grabbed her maggot infested corpse. I cared her rotting body to the red hot flames then threw her in. Smoke filled the sky and the ash of hundreds of people fell to the earth. I turned around to see Astro standing there. Astro was 32 now, but he had chosen to stop aging when he was 25. Astro no longer had the sparkle in his eyes that he once did, he had gone cold. He stared emptily into the flames and the orange light reflected off of his skin. He had his wife, Nikki, and his son, Malcolm, at home to comfort him, but not even the most loving family could make unseen what has been seen and lived. Astro blinked his eyes and turned his head towards me. There was horror and grief on his face. He too knew there was no hope. Then he turned around and walked towards another corpse. I ran my hand threw my hair and walked away.

Astro had his family, while Zoran and I only had him. Zoran and I had become doctors and never had time to find a husband and raise a family. Dr. O’Shay died in his sleep one night many years ago while Zoran and I were trying to nurse him to health. He was lucky though, because he never had to see the affects of this disease. Tenma lives on though. He was one of the people who escaped to live in space.
I stepped through an alley being careful not to step on any corpses. I had to find the ones in the worst condition, so I could get rid of those before they rotted away leaving only the stench. I saw a body decomposing in the corner of the alley and stumbled towards it. Suddenly, I heard something behind me. It sounded like… breathing. I twisted around and looked for the source of the breathing. At first it seemed like a man’s corpse was sighing heavily, but he had been dead for at least a few days. I ran over and poked his lifeless body. Suddenly, I heard a voice.
“Hhh hhh helppp” was said in a whisper.
That’s when I realized, the man was not the one breathing. I rolled over his body and instantly saw a little boy lying underneath him. I pulled him up and into my lap. He had long brown hair that covered his eyes and all he wore was orange shorts and black shoes and gloves. I stared into his big green eyes as I scanned his tiny and skinny body. Not a trace of the disease was inside of him, but he was dehydrated and needed nutrition. My on board computer told me that he was only five years old.
“I’m Zinc. What is your name, little boy?” I asked.
“I’m … I’m Akio.” He said with his voice just barely loud enough to hear.
“Okay, well Akio I’m gonna fix you up” I said while smiling.
I lifted him up and flew toward the ministry. At the ministry there were sanitary rooms that we would keep people in if need be. We used to have Kennedy, Alajo, and Kira living in there, but once Alajo got sick and died they all died. Kennedy had a wife and two boys, but they died the moment the disease hit Japan. All Kennedy lived for was his sister Kira. Alajo and Kira were married and had true love. All they ever wanted was children and Kira was pregnant when Alajo died. She watched him suffer for hours before he died and stayed next to his body even longer after. She refused to let us take him and then she started to show systems too. I watched the agony twist her face as the disease shut down all of her organs. For hours she groaned and screamed, and then she finally died. Kennedy was heartbroken when Kira died, so much so that he put a gun to his head. The bang from the bullet was heard for miles, due to the absence of human life. Astro, Zoran, and I all knew though that no matter how much we wanted to do the same we had to live on.
I landed softly on the top step before the ministry. Astro was carrying a body nearby, but when he saw the boy in my arms he dropped the corpse and ran after me. I went straight into the ministry and enter the code to open one of the sanitary rooms. Zoran was reading a book inside, but she too fallowed me when she caught site of the little breathing child. I laid him down of a metal table and he flinched when his skin touched the cold metal. I held up the needle which led into an I.V.
“This is going to sting a little.” I said just ask I pierced the needle into his fragile blood vein.
I put tape over it to hold it in then I looked at the boy. That’s when it hit me; this boy had not a trace of the disease in him. “Could… could he be immune?” I thought. I turned to see my siblings standing there. I motioned them forward.
“He doesn’t have a trace of Armageddon in him even though he was lying with all those bodies for days. He… he could be immune.” I whispered.
I whispered, because lately there had been some robots that didn’t want humanity to come back. Since robots had become completely self reliant they found no need to have the humans back. Fights would even break out about it. Robots were killed. If Akio was immune we would have to protect him with our lives. Astro and Zoran seemed astonished and excited by the possibility of the immunity. They both scanned the boy’s body then nodded very fast.
“This is very good news.” Astro said and I could see the sparkle in his eyes return as hope came back to him.
I nodded and grabbed Akio some space dried food.
“Here eat this.” I said as I handed it to the boy.
He took the food and nearly swallowed it whole. When he had finished though, tears started dripping down his delicate face. I sat down next to him.
“What is wrong, Akio.” I asked and he instantly sat up and dug is wet face into my shoulder.
“My whole family is dead.” He sobbed.
Before I knew it I had my arms wrapped around him. “It will be okay, Akio. They are in a better place.” I said on impulse. He hugged me tight and continued to sob. Astro and Zoran left and eventually Akio fell asleep. I sat there all night, because deep down I felt something for this little child that I had not felt before. That feeling made me want to hold and protect him forever.
