I actually have the whole set of Astroboy Videos that were released here in australia. Its the 80s series and i believe it is all the eps that were released here, but I honestly couldnt say for certain.

I think it is 17 videos in all. Its actually quite irritating because they released a set of 10 videos that all match up sweet and nice with an image that goes accross all the spines.

It wasnt until months later (having still not seen all the videos yet.. I am sp slack) that I started to think.. 'hey.. why does this feel.. short, somehow?". Turned out it was actually about 60% of the episodes! SUCK BIG!! but the next year they released all the 'skipped' episodes in another matching set of 7 videos.

So the episodes are TOTALLY OUT OF ORDER!! but I do have them all. At least I think its all of them. is it? does anyone know?

So I have a VHS hooked up to the video in on my computer and can watch the videos on the monitor.. and I can even record them to the HD using a freeware proggy I found somewhere (foregt where just now) but they end up ABSOLUTELY HUGE! I am talking like 400meg or somethin insane just for the opening credits! Well considering I only have a 6gig c :d rive, recording whole episodes is impossible unless I work out how to shrink them :(

If anyone knows anything about this I would appreciate some help. If I could VCD the episodes I wouldnt have to worry about the Tapes karkin it on me. Could then 'back up' those VCDs to and get volunteers to hold on to those 'backups' for me so I dont loose them. See how well I covered my arse there? lol

anyway. Lou, have you tried KazaLite K++ ? I mostly use it for downloading Game trailers and captures (I am totally hanging for FFX-2 to be released!! ;) but I did manage to get the english dub of the 60's pilot off there, and there was several episodes of the 80's series there as well that I didnt get.
three and a half years.. for what?

Yes Siren released all of the 80's series dubbed. They started with the first 10 tapes hmmmmm back in '97 i think which had episodes released in order with some quit a few missing. They also had stupid errors like the front of the packaging saying "Uban" or "Urban" instead of Uran, which was obviously a typo cause they spelt it rigth elsewhere. Also for the tape that said it contained The Robot Vikings *looks* tape 5, actually contained The Great Meltdown...i think it was.

As for me i collected the first 10 and then waited for the next 7 but still havent got round to buying them ^^;; I want to find them at bargain price now and end up picking up the DVDs for better quality
Kimi no kokoro de, catch the future!

Lol, sounds like a cool idea, Danny. I'd be happy to help you in your efforts to back up your tapes.
6 gigs isn't much room for capturing video, ideally you would capture full quality (using a codec called Huffyuv to reduce filesize without sacrificing any quality) and then recompress the big video to a smaller size using an mpeg codec such as Divx or Xvid for distribution or mpeg1/2 to be burned on a VCD. You could try capturing to a lossy codec made for fast compression, or capture at a smaller resolution (such as 320x240 instead of 640x480). Either of those would result in a much smaller filesize but would reduce quality and blur fine details depending on how small your target filesize is. Probably the best solution would be to try capturing to a different codec. Picvideo MJPEG codec is the most popular MPEG capture codec because at full quality settings it loses almost no visible detail, but has a filesize roughly 1/3 of Huffyuv.

I have read that post like 6 times and I still dont think I know what it means heh.. but then it is 1am here in Oz as I post this.

I will come back in a day or two and try readingthat when I am not 3/4 asleep and hopefully it will make a little more sense.

I think First step is to get a decent HD tho.. and that cant happen until at least february due to my pension money being pathetic >.<

Has anyone else here besides Haruka-chan got the 80s series from siren? I didnt mention in my last post but I will now. The tapes came in the usual black plastic bodys, or RED TAPES.. the red tapes are hella cool, but I had no idea this was an option, so I have like 3/4 black tapes and 1/4 red tapes. That really quite annoyed me. I would have much preferred to have all of them with the cool red tapes, obviously.

Let me know what parts of that post you need clairified, and I'll explain better. I tend to compress my ideas when I write on message boards, and that usually means using lots of jargon to get more info into fewer words...
I think you should try capturing an episode using the Picvideo codec, setting it to a quality that will make the captured file use up a bit less space than what you have free on your drive. You may find that the final video is still reasonable quality after some filtering and recompression.

Actually, I've been informed that the subtitles are in Chinese, not Cantonese. The audio is Japanese.

Oh I see. I was currently downloading the biggest robot on earth episodes using this slow dial up because its my favorite astroboy episodes but I could not find it in the dubbed versions. Well anywayz I will still download the 2 episodes even though i cannot understand what they are saying. If just someone could give me a detailed synopsis of the 2 episodes... Thank you for your wonderful ftp site Anapan, If you like I will upload to you opening and ending theme video clips of Blue Blink another Tezuka anime. I live here in the Philippines where the new Astroboy 2003 series is currently being shown every weekday. Its now on its 6th episode on Monday. The new series is a disappointment, its not the same action packed Astro that I used to know.
