Astro and Mickey
Every time I see DragonRider1227's Avatar or his signature, I kinda marvel on just how appropriate that picture is. Tezuka was called the "Walt Disney" of Japan. Well, Mickey was Walt's "signature" character. He is well known for lots of other characters, but he will always be identified by the mouse. And the same is true for Tezuka. Astro is HIS signature character creation, though his is well known for lots of others (more than Mr. Disney is, in fact). So seeing the two of them side by side, kinda makes sense. (Now what I'd REALLY like to see is an anime staring BOTH together! But that will NEVER happen).

My issue is that the whole "Lion King/Jungle Emperor" thing will never be resolved, because there is no way to prove whether or not it was, in fact, a copy. Disney would never admit to it if it was, and it should not have to if it was coincidental (which I believe is most likely, considering it is said to be based more on Hamlet, or at least, popularly believed to be- which I could not confirm for myself, having never read or seen Hamlet).
So, the whole ugliness this has caused will never be resolved completely (as there are plenty other factors to consider, like some people knowing, and others not knowing, about the similarities while working on the Lion King), and there can never be any good feeling between the two, which is a crying shame, in my opinion.

Considering that Leo was a series that accumulated certain plot elements over time, as opposed to the Lion King being a feature film that was planned out before it was even set into motion...
I have no idea where I was going with this. O_o; But i don't see all that many similarities, myself. Plenty of coincidences, sure. But I do not think it was intentional.
Besides, from my understanding, the Lion King had a very different plot when it was first planned out. For one thing, Scar was supposed to be a baboon...

Another similarity is logos. Disney uses the outline of Mickey's head and ears as a logo while Tezuka productions draws the 'O' in Osmau with the two hair spikes, or uses the 'O' by itself as a logo. Both logos look similar.

and Mickey and Astro have the same thing going where no matter what direction they're in, their ears/hair stay the same XD
BTW, does anyone else think Disney could make a pretty cool Princess Knight movie? My only fear is how they would merchandise it if how they tried to redesign Merida is any indication. Although unlike Merida, Sapphire actually does like to sometimes dress up pretty.

If I remember correctly Tezuka really admired Walt for his animations and skill, and in fact used Mickey in Metropolis as a little cameo (granted his design was used for giant ferocious rats that died) but he still had great respect for him.
I have a love-hate relationship with Disney not only for the Lion King thing (I also love the movie but am miffed at its blatant plagiarism) but also for the inaccurate depiction of Pocahontas. Disney claims that their movie is 100% accurate but in fact is really really REALLY off. They have made no apologies to the Mattaponi tribe for their errors and refuse to admit that they have essentially re-wrote history for thousands of people. Mataoka did NOT fall in love with John Smith, she WAS NOT a princess, she was NOT in her 20s and she was NOT even in the same time period as John Smith in the first place. The movie is horribly offensive by playing out the whole 'good Indian bad Indian' stereotype that prevailed in so many 1960s Westerns.
I also have issues with Disney because of other political equal rights stuff that I can't mention here.
