In the original Japanese version Atom does make it clear that Dr. Tenma is indeed his father when click for spoilerAtom embraces him and says "please don't die father" but in the ELV it is somewhat different as Atom says "I forgive you" and then Tenma realizes that he's not fit to be a father. It's true that he loves him, but he's not the father that Atom needs and thus realizes that Ochanomizu is the better parent
I always liked the ELV version better than the Japanese in regards to the 2003 series for this reason and my perspective of Atlas.![]()
I admit that the original Japanese version of the 1980s series is better and I like it better. I can't say with any true certainty though about the 1960s version though as I have only seen a handful of the original Japanese episodes, though I do love the ELVs as well. They are a joy! And I love Billie's voice for Atom.![]()
I get what you're getting at, Earthsine. But I've always felt that Astro begging his father not to kill himself was still a form of forgiveness, just one that's not as direct as the dub. Regardless, I still feel that either way you still get the same outcome.
