THE ORIGINAL ASTROBOY COMIC (1980s comic)
THE ORIGINAL ASTROBOY COMIC (1980s comic)
This series from NOW Publications was based on the 1960s ASTROBOY series. They thought they'd purchased the rights from someone referred to at the beginning of each comic as "Suzuki & Associates," a Japanese subject, apparently. This person's idea was similar to that of the person who years ago tricked an English firm into printing Venezuelan currency for illegal purposes, but they were much more successful at it. Competition from companies like Marvel and DC Comics forced NOW Comics to eventually shut down and go out of business altogether, but even so, the comic was well designed and put together. Sadly, as Dr. Osamu Tesuka was not the author of this comic, it is a work of plagiarism.
Re: THE ORIGINAL ASTROBOY COMIC (1980s comic)
It's crazy that they did this. I can't find anything that suggests they faced legal repercussions. Apparently the Gold Key and March of Comics appearances of Astro weren't authorised either.
I can't actually remember any of the NOW storyline, just that it was badly drawn.
