The visual quality is excellent. The subtitle quality isn't the best, but you can understand what's going on. It's quite a good item if you've already got the VHS English dubs, because there's a few additional scenes and the occassional line translated differently.

You could probably get it off EBay, otherwise search this forum for links to purchase sites. Note that only the first 26 episodes are available, and they're in a different order from the English version.

I'm really hoping there's an official release at some point, but we've yet to see even an English dub on DVD. :(
The official Japanese release in Japan has no English subtitles.

Hey now! Watch those "Old Fart" comments! I resemble them too much to be happy about it! :P

That, my friend, is why I am learning spoken Japanese. Unfortunately, I am making very slow progress. But with WB's treatment of the series, it should be worthwhile.

Yeah I'm going to take Japanese next term. I like the Japanese versions better, the music and voices. Much better.

I also think the original music is far better than the dubbed music. There is a morbid xylophone piece in the current series that gives me the creeps big-time.

I just got the DVDs of the 80's version a few days ago. I watched the 1st ep and I was
really surprised about those 'lost' scenes. They all have been removed from the siren tapes but I can't see why. Too violent? Can barely imagine  .

As far as the subtitles concerned: Tobio as 'Philipp'? I don't think so, Tim ;) .

Can someone tell me if the last 26 eps are released already :o ?

Check these threads. Note that the first one does contain a link to the second, which is older and more detailed.

Is there a bootleg DVD of the entire 60's series?
