it say complete second series. but doesnt give any indication of episodes etc. is this the series that was on tv last year.. or did it have a second series ..??

The "second season" is episodes 26-50 of the 2003 series.

Sweet ... that looks like the widescreen Australian edition.

and also i have the first 6 dvds of the news series. are they the ones missing from this?

No, it only aired up to episode 26 in Australia.

This boxset continues on from the first 6 they released. (I think they've also released 7 and 8 separately)
