There could be a "real" Astro Boy in existence, right now?

... Does anybody else find it creepy that there is a robotics firm called "Kokoro"? If anybody is familiar with the 2003 Astro Boy (which they should be), then you can probably see how that's kinda weird.

Butyeah, I'd love to see a real Astro, if he was anything like the Astro we all know and love. By the way, I don't exactly pretend to know a lot about what's being said around here, but, if I remember correctly, it seems reasonable that something would have to have a humanoid shape in order to feel human emotions. I don't think having a human brain really matters that much. I mean, think of iGod: in a conversation with my older brother, it was asked if it had emotions. It said that it could feel, but not as a human would.

I want to know that, too. Astro looks very upset. I don't recall seeing that in any 1060's episodes (maybe it never made it to the USA.)

To me it doesn't seem reasonnable to suppose that a human shape is required to feel human emotions. Emotions are in the brain, not in the body.
As for God, if it/he/she exists, I don't expect it/he/she to have a human brain, so the reasonning doesn't work. Or is iGod not a typo?

Good/interesting point - if you lose a limb/limbs or sense(s) it doesn't turn off your human nature/emotions (can heighten your awareness/sensitivity, in fact). That said, the more humanoid an AI, the more experiences/emotions it could have in common with a majority of humans.

Astro knows he's capable of flying, and that he packs 100,000 hp and laser weaponry -- so his emotional reactions to things like danger won't be like ours.

I know from having a very imperfect human body that my emotions / psychology are/is a bit different from what I assume is the norm; though it is problematic to establish a norm. While the types of emotions might not vary from one body type to another, the dominant emotion might. I think were it not for my twisted sense of humor, I would be depressed always.

Hey Jeffbert, while I don't know what specific imperfections you refer to, I am humbled and moved to realize that because we're communicating through these typed characters -- we're on a kind of "level playing field."

You're one of the first names I became familiar with here (haven't even been a member for a month yet) -- and (for what it's worth) I picture you must be a guy who reads Dilbert and a techno-geek, which is cool. Plus you seem to be a Atom/Tezuka guru. I am in awe, and very grateful!

So my glee at uncovering arcane factoids about my dear childhood friend, Astro Boy, can be attributed, in large part to your work on this site and dedication to compiling all the manga, animation, etc. you have - and your willingness to share it with us. That is to be admired -- and perhaps you wouldn't be doing this work if other parts of your life were different.

Each of us has challenging issues we live with -- yet it seems when we let our good stuff shine through (like your "twisted sense of humor" and Atom knowledge) the painful things that threaten to consume us lose their power. Hmmm that's very Astro Boy

And I think AI/robotics can do a LOT to help us overcome physical issues that limit us as we are now. My dad is losing his vision to macular degeneration; mother suddenly has all kinds of mobility issues; husband battles terrible allergies. It breaks my heart -- and it just FEELS like we should be able to fix these things. So I truly hope there IS a "real" Astro Boy out there. And hopefully this forum will play a part in motivating people to choose that as a career path.

I had discussed physical problems with another member who suffers from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome; so it is no secret. But, to put it bluntly, I am like Dr. Strangelove (or the poor guy in Evil Dead II) in that the left parts of my body exhibit involuntary movement. As though this were not bad enough, my right extremities are wearing out from doing the work of both sides. But, I rediscovered Astroboy through the now defunct Yesterdayland.com, & somehow, ended up here.

Yes, I read (past tense) Dilbert, but as I have been retired for a while, I have not bothered with it lately.
