no offencement to my fellow astroboy fanatic brothers but i like it better when astroboys a litte bit smaller with his cute little boots.....

I agree, on a little kid, only two items should be noticably large: his noggin/head and his eyes. Everything else should be noticably smaller, including hands and feet. Atom is often depicted with rather large hands, but he would be ill-equipped for his adventures with smaller hands. However, his feet serve no purpose being larger in the new series!

Hey Mosquito Tow was Inspector Randolf Holmes in The Made Made Solar Sun of the 80s series. Can he still do the robot disguise thing that changes his height and build?

I do not recall seeing him yet.

Foot binding isn't as popular these days.

I have read a biography of a Chinese woman who in addition to her own bio, gave those for her mama and grandma also. Grandma suffered the foot binding, mama was caught between the Communists and the KMT, the writer herself lived through the Cultural Revolution. All three had it very rough, but when fleeing her master (she was a concubine) grandma was ill-equipped for running, or even balancing on those mutilated feet.

ya....foot binding is so mean. i have seen a documentary about that tradition. my face is all crumpled up seeing those woman in that kind of ordeal. anyways, they accepted it all heartedly. so i guess its okay with them. by the way, one episode of ripleys has shown one woman who had foot binded herself. no one asks her to do it. its so weakens me more to see it in colored rather than the first documentary i saw..
i guess astroboy need not to be foot binded, cause he has no foot... or does he????

His feet retract when he flies. The new series does a very impressive job of making it believable. If you have seen the 1st episode, you have seen this scene as he is falling, his desire to save himself somehow becomes a command to activate his flying mode (which he does not even know he has), and his feet slit, separate, and fold into his legs, while the jet nozzles extend. It is really cool! :wahah: I belive in this same episode, he sees that he is about to collide with a large immovable object, and by the same principle, his arm jets activate, and slow him. :D

By similar circumstances, he first uses his laser beam, his short arm megaman super beam, and his visual powers.

I made note of the exceptions to the foot retaction in the 80s series at the bottom of this page.

so that explains it. very well jeffbert... so i guess on the new series the only purpose of his long legs is to have more space whenever his new big foot retracts. :D

Just something I thought I would add, correct me if i am wrong.
I thought that only women had there feet bound so that they were small & petite & attract a husband  I hope I dont sound like a feminist but IT really sucks that a woman would have to endure soo much pain just to appease "THE MAN" & mutilate herself to appear sexy. I am not a bra burner but I am totally behind the "Take me as I am" philosiphy. Its a shame the japanese found this out too late

ohhhhhh!!!! i can feel the anger inside...let it out....let it out!!!

actully loubear your right. bounded foot means a lot to them (japanesse if am right). but really its not only them. if you have known this fact, one tribe in africa or other parts of the world to be safe, some put a plate on the lower lips..the bigger the sexier and the more you could attract men. other ethnic group put rings on their neck, the higher the sexier.in modern europe, girls wore this things on the stomach that is fitted very hard to achieve this hour glass figure. and still many unhumane acts are still practiced even up to now. so dont be sad cause many people share the same feeling as you have...even me...

Foot binding is not a Japanese custom. It was a Chinese custom. :o

From my studies, I would say that is correct. If you ever get the chance to watch "Body Styles" on TLC, do so. Having seen that, I would say that foot-binding is the most extreme form of mutilation for the sake of style. However, there were some other very extreme practices, the most widely spread one still in practice is, well, I do not think I can speak of it tastefully, so I will merely say that in its mildest form, it involves the removal of a female sexual organ. Then there is the rings around the necks, that push the collar bones downward, and weaken the neck muscles such, that the woman cannot live without the rings. All in the name of satifying men's weird tastes. This particular thing was practiced by people who wore very little clothing, and as such, they felt they had to decorate the body itself. Other things such as tatoos, and skin sculpting were also practised by the nearly nude cultures.

Dr. Frag was no doubt making a joke with his reference to foot-binding, but it is no laughing matter. Those who rule often do impose arbitrary standards upon those whom they rule

Yes, the things we women go through for men!!! ;) We give birth, & all the other stuff mentioned(BTW, after having 2 kids & heaps of nieces & nephews, almost all the guys say that if men had to go thru labour instead of women, Humans would be on the endangered species list!!! :wahah: :wahah: ) But in defence of men most of the guys I know (including the guys here ;) :D ) they are pretty good. Its just a pity that history didn't have as much sense <_<
