The Geronimo Reports

After each episode of the Canadian version of the 1980s series, Astro Boy would report back to a computer named Geronimo and tell it what he did that day. Astro would always purposely make a mistake in the explanation, and then a voice would come on and challenge the viewers to figure out Astro's mistake. The reports were made in order to make up for lost time, as four to five minutes were cut from the episodes, removing the especially violent parts.

Geronimo report on "Astro's First Love"

The episode for this report is Astro's First Love.

Geronimo: “Good day. I am ready to record your report for the archives of the institute. Make it short, thank-you”.

Astro: “I arrived in Bardatan on schedule for my mission to locate the diagram for the warhead, but I chose to disembark the train a bit prematurely; there was a mandatory security check at the next station so instead I jumped off the train… and that's when I met Nikki. Lucky for me, she knew the area well. I asked her to take me to the underground fortress, and with her help was able to enter the premises despite the threat of many obstacles. She even managed to sneak me pass the guard by pretending I was a discarded robot destined for Dr. Rindolf, Master of the fortress. But the doctor non-the-less discovered my intrusion. Furious at Nikki for befriending me, an enemy, Dr. Rindolf told me that Nikki was built with a warhead inside of her and one simple gesture of betrayal would be enough to convince him to set off the timer… and with that I found myself trapped inside a rocket that was programmed for a one way trip to the moon. Despite the doctor's warnings for Nikki to stay away from me, she still came to my rescue - an infuriated Rindolf set off the warhead. We managed to regain entry to the fortress and resumed on my mission. But we quickly discovered that it was fruitless; Dr. Rindolf had not contented himself with fabricating a single protocol of the robot warhead - Nikki - he had created hundreds! I immediately decided to destroy everything that could promote the production of these dangerous robots. The doctor became trapped under some debris and I planned to run away with Nikki. This is when she informed me that the doctor had activated the warhead. She wanted me to leave and not die here with her. I agreed to help free the trapped doctor provided he stopped the warhead from detonating. He replied that this was impossible because the only way to stop the bomb was to take Nikki completely apart from head to toe. There was not adequate time. He also told me that he would not be able to put her back together because he had destroyed the diagram, and I had destroyed the other robots. But you know … Love has worked miracles! Over and out!”

Geronimo: “One moment, I must analyze your report before storing it in my memory”.

Female narrator explaining the challenge:

“Have you watched closely and especially listened carefully to Astro's report? Yes, I'm sure you have. Now quick, pick up a pencil and a piece of paper to write down which error, I repeat; which error Astro made on purpose in his report to the computer Geronimo in order to play with you. Did he make a mistake on a name? A place? A detail of the adventure which you've just seen? Can you remember if it was:
  • The name of the Master of the fortress
  • The star which the rocket was destined to crash
  • The name of Nikki's homeland
Compare your answer with those of your friends, and may the best player win!”

Geronimo report on "The Robot Circus"

The episode for this report is Robot Circus.

Geronimo: “Good day. I am ready to record your report for the archives of the institute. Make it short, thank-you”.

Astro: “When we finally got to the circus, Roberto recharged my batteries. Everyone admired the great Tornado. No matter how hard I tried, I never quite seemed to succeed. I made a lot of mistakes, and that made Roberto very angry. If it hadn't been for Kathy, she works at the circus, I would have gotten into a lot of trouble. Then, one night, Roberto made Tornado go on without a tune up. There was a terrible accident and Tornado was shattered. That's when Kathy suggested that I replace Tornado. I trained very hard, and when I was sure I was ready, I got my big chance. For luck, Kathy gave me the boots her brother used to wear when he performed in the circus. But Roberto didn't think I could do it, so just before I went on Roberto overloaded the batteries on the computerized animals, hoping they would perform better. Instead, the animals went berserk and I was the one who ended up saving the day. Now that I could replace Tornado, Roberto wouldn't let me go. So Kathy came up with an idea that would give me my freedom. She faked an accident and then everyone would think I had been destroyed. Thinking there was no more Astro, Roberto tore up my contract and I was finally able to make my way back to Futurapolis”.

Geronimo: “One moment, I must analyze your report before storing it in my memory”.

Geronimo report on "Lilly on Peligro Island"

The episode for this report is Lilly on Peligro Island.

Geronimo: “Good day. I am ready to record your report for the archives of the institute. Make it short, thank-you”.

Astro: “One day, I found numerous bottles in the sea, each containing the same message. To summarize, a girl named Julie was being held prisoner on the island of Peligro along with her grandfather, and this island was not found on any map. I departed for my quest to save her without saying a word to anyone. On my way I saw a boat completely swallowed up by a sea serpent and inevitably I suffered the same fate. I found myself surrounded by a group of marines that knew less than I about where we were. Infact, we where trapped in an artificial island, the famous Peligro. Here, everyone was forced to work in a copper mine. I got to know an older gentleman; Julie's grandfather who had been a prisoner of Peligro for 10 years. I came up with a strategy to facilitate their escape. All would have went well if I had not been spotted by the master of the island and his men. I succeeded despite all obstacles to help my new friends reach solid ground, after having defeated the sea serpent. Unfortunately, or fortunately as you will see, the swell of the sea had carried the head of the sea serpent to the beach and onto the island where we had set foot. The Queen of this island and her warriors were originally going to give us an unwarm welcome, but then in the end welcomed me a hero because I had defeated the sea serpent that had often been a threat to them. Since this brief report is kept secret, I admit I had left the country without proper authorization. I was also very exhausted from my restless night but I still went to find my friends that I had left under the care of Queen Maola. With their realization that I had no intention of sticking around, Queen Maola ordered the capture of Julie and her Grandfather. My friends took advantage of the confusion to jump onto a small boat to sail and flee. That's when things became disarrayed; Julie exhausted all research to relocate me. She had no idea that I was a robot and that the unveiling of this truth could cost more than it was worth. That should teach me to leave without permission. Over and out!”

Geronimo report on "Astro Fights Aliens"

The episode for this report is Astro Fights Aliens.

Geronimo: “Good day. I am ready to record your report for the archives of the institute. Make it short, thank-you”.

Astro: “Following the failure of the first expedition on mars, the director of the space center gave command of the second expedition over to me. It was clear from the start that Lt. Blackstone did not take me seriously. He was annoyed when I pointed out that the magnetic compass was off by a thousandth of a degree. Shortly before takeoff, we found a young girl who had stowed away on the Sympathy. Her name was Carlina, sister of Lt. Larson who had been left behind on mars following a heated argument with his captain over some UFOs which he’d found suspect. As it was, one of the UFOs tailed our spaceship, and so I sent Lt. Blackstone out to get me a new battery, as I knew I’d have to use a lot of power. I got the UFO, but for reasons which escaped me at the time, I discovered that my batteries were almost dead. I barely had enough energy to walk when I entered the UFO. As luck would have it, I was able to recharge my batteries and return to the ship with a rather forbidding creature. We just arrived on Mars when I heard sounds of battle. I went to have a look and found LT. Larson inside a defence module, which he built to protect himself from the impending attack. The alien creatures went after our men who were not equipped to fight back. I was hit, and rather than fleeing with the others, Lt. Blackstone came to my rescue. I asked him to get me a new battery, and in his zeal, he was unable to avoid a collision with the fourth and last UFO. Over and out.”
